Our story

1965

Post-war migrants from Hungary, Mike & Kathleen Szepe and Philip’s Grandmother Judy Fadgyjas set up farm with a small flock of 2500 hens in Kinglake West. The business grew within the confines of Victoria’s strictly regulated egg industry.

1971

The farm grows to 41,000 hens.

1987

After completing a Bachelor of Agricultural Science, son Phillip Szepe joins the business. Kinross Farm is contracted to supply the esteemed Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL) with eggs for vaccine testing – 400,000 eggs are initially supplied.

2001

Philip and his wife Jane buy the business from the family and expand to create a new farm in Euroa.

2004

CSL invest $150m in the Euroa incubation facility and egg volume grows to 27m per year.

2007 

Vaccine egg production begins in Euroa.

2009 

Innovative free range and rearing methods are launched in Euroa, Carisbrook and Wimmera.

2010 

A value added processed egg plant is built to produce liquid egg products. CSL global egg volume increases to 50,000,000.

2018

A Kinglake West/Euroa Grading facility is built.

2020

Free range hen numbers grow to 700,000, and across the farms there are a total of 1,100,000 hens.
